For months it’s been bugging Me to look up the psychologist who after cheating on his wife with his assistant was thrown out of the medical profession and wound up on Madison Ave. Turns out it’s Watson himself, the one who conducted the little albert experiment where he scared the crap out of the baby to demonstrate the power of classical conditioning. If you remember learning about the Skinner box in high school and the CS, UCS, and CR then you know what I am saying and will follow My lead into My topic. If not google it, read and refresh your memory. Or at this point in the discussion you are free to fuck off and do as you please as you are a free thinking human animal with the ability to choose.
What is crucial about this experiment is the logic behind it and the implication for contra or “de” conditioning – what is known in behaviorism as extinction. This mode of therapy or behavior modification is what they used to use to make gay people strait and in reverse, what some believe make kinky people more kinky. It is possible to modify behavior with coercion and the threat of punishment but because we can direct behavior toward an outcome does it mean we can also reverse an outcome with the same strategy?
Successful behavioral conditioning in BDSM is only truly achievable when the dominant can program the slave according to his innate programmability. She can only put into a slave’s head what is already there to be put upon. Her access to molding his/her desires must run complementary to his/her natural fetishistic proclivity. So if a slave doesn’t like to worship feet but the slave desires to please and I want to make a foot whore out of him/her, I may condition the slave to do so is true, but does this a true foot slave make?
It all depends on the tactics. If I threaten to beat him/her it’s highly likely he/she will worship My feet out of fear. If I offer a choice between eating shit and worshipping My feet there is a good chance the slave will choose the lesser evil of the two. If I know she/he cannot resist My feet I can use it to make him/her eat shit to get to My feet and beat him/her as well to receive her/his foot fix, correct?
Yes I think any dominant (or sub/masochist) would agree with the above so far, but any dominant who believes that She has ALL the power without knowing how to properly push the slaves buttons is kidding Herself as much as any slave who believes himself the quintessential canvas for Her to do as She pleases. It’s hard to believe John Money’s life’s work is scrapped. When I read Gay Straight and in Between, he is spot on in describing what I have seen in so many slaves, what I have observed too many times as the slave’s pattern or in medical vernacular, the paraphile’s symptomology for sexual contrivance and how the sexual urges routinely run contrary to his/her more prevalent self beliefs, mostly pertaining to what is good and to what is evil in this world, in the afterworld, and what is within his or herself.
To develop this topic further I went looking through some old notes from a course I took. I found an article from an old Psychology Today entitled The Pleasure of the Pain and Why Some People Need S & M. A really good article in a not so great magazine, but I do admire its charm for watering down psychological constructs to make them more understandable to all, not just to students of psychology or MD’s. What we, Me and this magazine, have in common is an objective to appeal NOT to those in the field, but to those out in the world.
And seeing this cover out in the world has mass appeal. It evokes an unusual feeling in Me. It gives Me a chance to feel proud- to be a domme for a moment in a context outside the traditional porn related sleazy one. A sign of things to come? I pray so. But you will not find the article I mention inside the issue above slaves. I have just been waiting for an excuse to use this picture to contextualize a meaning for it. The article is worthwhile reading, however it doesn’t have much to say on the art of the mindfuck. The level of intensity in this article is way beneath what I will impart with Money’s strategems. Well, that harkens back to the question of exactly which of the partners in a professional domination scenario actually is the submissive. In most, I’d argue, it’s the pro domme. While she can certainly turn down the client, more often she’ll do the scene.
However, I’ll confess, what I find most attractive about You (OK, aside from the more obvious, like the delicious leather clothing, the exquisitely sculpted body and the truly spectacular mind) is that You neatly avoid that trap. It’s Your terms. Your trip. Only.
One of the more effective ways to achieve that level of dominance, I suspect, is only possible in a D/S relationship that goes beyond the session. If a dominant achieves full control over the sexual release of the submissive, at least in the vast majority of males you’ll achieve the ability to train, condition and control on a reasonably deep level, particularly if you couple it with a fetish that isn’t utterly repulsive to the submissive. (And I wonder if it might be possible to get beyond that “repulsive” limitation through persistent training).
It’s unproved theory, I’ll admit. But the hypothesis has its own charms… and would certainly seem worth testing.
